Mount Difficulty 2017 Roaring Meg Pinot Noir
Mount Difficulty is my favourite producer of Central Otago Pinot Noir. Complex wines with notes of black cherry, spices and forest fruits.
Roaring Meg is produced by Mt Difficulty, one of Central Otago's leading producers. This wine is sourced from two of their vineyards in the Cromwell basin of Central Otago.
This area of New Zealand, more than any other, has made its reputation based on its surprisingly rich Pinot Noirs, with Mt Difficulty being one of the pioneering estates of the region. Roaring Meg is their entry level range, but do doubt, it is made with the same skill as their top wines.
The wine is made like a modern Burgundy with partial whole cluster fermentation which adds a richness and brightness to the fruit. The wine is macerated on its skins for 21 - 23 days giving a deep extraction with concentrated flavours, and aged for 10 months in French oak barrels.
